ZoseDesigns 3 Hair clips with a touch of nostalgia by ZoseDesigns

If you have a little girl, you know there is no such thing as too many hair clips. Out of all the things that exist in excess in my house, hair clips take up the least room and get used the most.

Unfortunately they also get lost, a lot, so I try to pick them up whenever I see some cute ones around. These ZoseDesigns harclips are really sweet, they remind me of the clips I used to wear when I was a little girl.

All the cute is covered – cupcakes, ladybugs, crochet and fabric buttons – need I say more? All clips are designed and handmade in Australia, prices start at $4 and shipping is only $1.60, yup $1.60, from the ZoseDesigns Etsy store.

They say fashion has a thirty year cycle. It works for me as I’m about thirty years older than my kids and I’m loving recreating my childhood through them. Now if you will excuse me, I’m off to play with the Cabbage Patch Kid my little lady got for Christmas.

Inspiration #5. Delectable desserts.

Mmmmm. I indulged in this dessert on a recent trip to Bali. The colors, the sounds, the smells and the tastes of Bali provided much inspiration for new Zose Designs product ideas… Who knew that inspiration would strike while eating this simple masterpiece?

Sew cute. Stylish kids’ clothes on a budget. #1

I never knew how to sew. But when my daughter was born, something snapped and I bought a sewing machine. Suddenly, I was sewing baby clothes like a woman possessed. Most of the clothes turned out very well, even if the seams were a bit crooked at times. Unfortunately, babies grow so quickly, that she was able to wear each item only a few times. So, I thought I would preserve the memories here, and also share the sources for some of the patterns that I really liked.

I searched for most of my patterns online. Some were free, some were not. And once I became comfortable with sewing, I even created some myself. Here is one of my first blouses. This is called the Magic Pocket Blouse, and I got it from Mani Mina online. I think it turned out pretty cute with a polka-dotted pink circle pocket against a pink, blue and red flowered jersey fabric.  I am completely a novice at sewing, and this was not difficult at all.

Another pattern that I absolutely loved, was a reversible pinafore with bloomers. The pinafore was soooo easy that it was nearly impossible to make any mistakes. And since it is reversible, so you get two outfits from one. I made several of these, and gave some away as gifts. You can see the reverse pattern on the middle and third photos below.

The pattern for the pinafore is from Sew Sweet Patterns. It is for both the pinafore and matching bloomers. In one of the outfits I added an elastic band around the leg, and in the other a normal hem.

Please check back for more patterns and crafts. Happy sewing!

Christmas stocking. For a special touch to your fireplace mantle, who can resist these hand-sewn stockings? From Bebe Sniklefritz on Etsy ($26 + 10.50 USD for name/monogram). We bought one for our daughter two years ago, and can’t wait to bring it out this year. The fabric is so soft and fluffy, and the embroidery work is excellent. From the popularity of the shop, we think others agree as well.

Finger puppets. Keep your little one entertained with these adorable finger puppets from MiChiMaLLC. Although the puppets are recommended for children 4 years and over, our daughter has been entertained by them from age 0.

I spy bags are the perfect toys to keep your toddler and preschooler busy when traveling. In the car or on the plane, these are lightweight, will fit in your carry-on or stuff it behind the front seat. Each time our little one picks this up, there are always some new things to find and new surprises. We have bought several as gifts over and over.  Below: (top photo) Cupcakes, I Spy Bag Travel Toy by Aebaby, $20 USD, (bottom photo) Train hide and seek I Spy bag by Giggle Junction, $15 USD.

Baby blocks. These are so much better than baby blocks sold at retails shops these days, where you have no idea how the wood was processed or about the paints and sealants used. These blocks have lasted us three years and have survived many a tower and even a tantrum or two. They are non-toxic and chemical-free. By Tiny Giraffe Shop, $26 USD.
